Actress, author and activist, Annabelle Gurwitch, takes social issues and turns them into provocative entertainment. She currently spends a great deal of time trolling through people’s trash hosting the carbon foot printing series “WA$TED” for The Planet Green Network now in it’s 3rd season. Annabelle gained a loyal comedic following on Dinner & a Movie on TBS (over 200 episodes), she has hosted shows for The Style Channel, Sci-Fi, The VH1, ABC, The Game Show Network, and HBO. Her first book Fired! was deemed a “merry compendium of failure” by The Washington Post and her eponymous documentary Fired! has played everywhere from Showtime Network to The Labor Department on Capitol Hill. She has been a columnist for The Nation Magazine and a contributing writer and commentator on Day to Day and All Things Considered on NPR targeting everything from politics to pop culture. People Magazine calls her new book “laugh out loud,” You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up … a love story (Crown 2/23/20120), a “hilarious and touching marital memoir” (Library Journal) was co-written with her husband Emmy Award winning writer, Jeff Kahn.
Throughout her career, Annabelle has shared her unique point of view on social issues on a variety of talk shows, including: The Today Show, The CBS Early Show, Showbiz Tonight, CNN In the Money, Glenn Beck, Fox Business News, Fox and Friends, The Smoking Gun and Politically Incorrect. In addition, Annabelle has written for Glamour, Marie Claire, Men’s Health, Los Angeles Times and More Magazine. Time Magazine featured Annabelle and her Fired! film in their cover story “Ten Ideas that are changing the world.” Last Earth Day, she took millions of viewers on a tour of the largest landfill in the country on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Most recently, Annabelle has made appearances on The Joy Behar Show, The Wanda Sykes Show and CNN.
Her acting credits include over fifty guest starring roles on series including “The Cleaner,” “Medium,” “Boston Legal,” and “Seinfeld” Her films include: Shaggy Dog, Daddy Day Care and Melvin Goes to Dinner. Annabelle’s work off-Broadway in the title role of Murray Mednick’s Joe and Betty garnered her place in The New York Times Top Ten Performances in Theatre of the Year 2002.
Annabelle attended NYU, she sits in the advisory board of United Professionals, a labor advocacy group founded by Barbara Ehrenreich and is a national spokesperson for the Do Not Mail Registry sponsored by Forest Ethics. She, her husband and son reside in Los Angeles.
